The Quill
Consultancy is attempting to assess the demand for training in the .NET
development products currently being released by Microsoft.
One of our
contract trainers, Jason Cook, has just returned from Sydney after
completing an intensive five day Trainer Preparation for the delivery of a
wide range of courses that are or will become available over the next six
months from Microsoft on the .NET development technologies.
Jason currently
holds Microsoft certifications MCSE, MCDBA, MCSD and MCT and has a
significant experience in wide range of Microsoft development products. He
has also attended Tech-Ed for the last 3 years so is very aware of all new
and upcoming Microsoft technologies and products.
Microsoft have,
or are about to release a significant range of courses in their .NET
development environment. As Tasmania is a relative small training market to
deliver development training into we hope to
receive feedback from major developers on their approach and likely
demand for instructor lead training in this area. For courses to be able
to be run successfully careful planning is required by us to meet the
market demands.
Microsoft have
recently announced a new certification for developers who work with
Microsoft development technologies. The MCAD (Microsoft Certified
Application Developer) requires a pass in two core exams plus one
option.
For details of the
MCAD certification
The MCAD
certification is Microsoft attempt to make the certification of developers
more layered which allows people to reach a number of goals on the way to
premier certification MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer).

Three Streams of Courses
From this point
the courses on offer in general terms are split into three streams.
These
are:
With each stream
it is important to realise that we will not expect to deliver training for
all courses listed below. It should be noted that a number of courses act
as prerequisite to other courses and that in general times for each stream
we have listed the courses in the order in which they should be attempted.
As with all Microsoft Official Curriculum courses The Quill Consultancy is
flexible with prerequisite requirements.

Web Development
Course 2063 - Introduction to ASP.NET - 3 days
This course
exposes students to the features of ASP.NET, and provides hands-on
experience to create a simple ASP.NET application that delivers dynamic
content to the Web.
Currently this
course has been written for Visual Studio.Net Beta 2 and it would be our
intention to run this course once it has been upgraded to the released
product of Visual Studio.Net
Course 2310 -
Developing Web Applications Using Microsoft Visual Studio.Net
– 5 days
This course will
teach the fundamentals of Web site implementation using ASP.NET and Visual
Basic .NET with the Visual Studio .NET environment and the .NET platform
Course 2389 - Programming with ADO.Net – 3 days
This course will
teach developers to build data-centric applications and Web services with
Microsoft ADO.NET, Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000, and the Microsoft .NET
Framework.
Visual Basic.Net
Course 2559 -
Introduction to Visual Basic .NET Programming with Microsoft .NET
– 5 days
This five-day
instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills
needed to develop applications in Microsoft® Visual Basic® .NET for the
Microsoft .NET platform. The course focuses on user interfaces, program
structure, language syntax, and implementation details. This is the first
course in the Visual Basic .NET curriculum and will serve as the entry
point for other .NET courses.
Course 2373 - Programming with
Microsoft Visual Basic .NET – 5 days
The goal of this
course is to provide Microsoft Visual Basic® developers with the knowledge
and skills needed to develop Microsoft .NET-based applications by using
Visual Basic .NET. Visual Basic .NET is a significant upgrade to Visual
Basic and incorporates many new features and framework goals of the .NET
architecture. These changes will allow Visual Basic developers to create
enterprise applications for the .NET Platform and to create more
traditional Visual Basic applications that can take advantage of the
enhancements to the language.
Course 2415 - Programming the
Microsoft .NET Framework with Visual Basic .NET
(Prerelease) – 5 days
The goal of this
course is to help application developers understand the Microsoft .NET
Framework. In addition to offering an overview of the .NET Framework and
an introduction to key concepts and terminology, the course provides a
series of labs, which introduce and explain .NET Framework features that
are used to code, debug, tune, and deploy applications.
Course 2565 - Developing .NET
Windows Applications (Microsoft Visual Basic .NET)
– 3 days
This three-day
instructor-led course provides students with the skills required to build
Microsoft® Windows® Forms applications by using the Microsoft .NET
Framework. This three day course is a part of the Microsoft Visual Basic®
.NET curriculum and is intended for Visual Basic .NET programmers to be
able to create Windows applications using the .NET Framework. The course
will cover the major topics for Windows client application programming on
the .NET Framework. These include: Windows Forms; GDI+; simple data
access; interoperating with unmanaged code; threading and asynchronous
programming issues; simple remoting, Web access, Web Services consumption;
debugging; security, and deployment issues for desktop applications.

Programming with C# - 5 days
The goal of this
course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to
develop C# applications for the Microsoft .NET Platform. The course
focuses on C# program structure, language syntax, and implementation
details.
C# was created
to be the programming language best suited for writing enterprise
