LRC Life Member Darren Balmforth
has been inducted into the Tasmanian Sporting Hall of Fame.
Darren joins some of the greatest names in Tasmanian sports
history: fellow rowers Simon Burgess, Reg Free, Ted Hale,
Len Hallam, Stephen Hawkins and Cecil McVilly.
The Tasmanian Minister for Sport
and Recreation, David O'Byrne, recently announced the 2010
inductees with Darren being joined by Matthew Gilmore
(cycling), Alastair Lynch (Australian football) and Bill
Youd (woodchopping).
"I warmly congratulate these
athletes not only on their impressive sporting achievements,
but also on being inspirational role models for younger
generations of Tasmanians, " Mr O'Byrne said.
The Lindisfarne Rowing Club
is delighted to have Darren inducted to the Sporting Hall of
Fame alongside fellow LRC champion, Stephen Hawkins.

Tasmanian rowers shine at World
Championships
Lindisfarne Rowing Club oarsmen Sam Beltz and Nick Baker
have snared medals at the World Rowing Championships at New
Zealand's Lake Karapiro.
Beltz and fellow Tasmanians
Blaoir Tunevitsch and Anthony Edwards teamed up with Western
Australian Todd Skipworth to take silver in the dramatic
final of the men's lightweight four. Great Britain won by
0.07 seconds from Australia, which China 0.01 seconds behind
in third place.
Bake won a silver medal in
the men's lightweight eight along with Northern Tasmanian
rowers Alistair Foot and Tunevitsch.
Victorian-based Tasmanian
Olympian Kate Hornsey earned herself a silver medal in the A
Final of the women's colxless four and another Tasmanian,
Kerry Hore, won a silver in the double scull, bettering the
fourth place she achieved in the quad scull final. |
