Southern Schools' Regatta Posted 2 February 2007

Franklin, Saturday 24 February 2007

Update: An information sheet is now available.

After a very successful effort last year, Derwent Mercantile Collegiate Rowing Club is again hosting this event and will need strong support from all parents on the day to make it a success.  This is a significant fund raising event (following on from the Silent Auction) and requires as many volunteers as possible to ensure success. The day will run similar to last year, with an additional BBQ, drinks van, and a merchandise stand with Rowbust apparel.

Last year we had parents rostered for 2 hours shifts on each Kiosk/BBQ etc. This year it is planned to do the same, however it may be necessary to allocate some parents to 2 shifts for the day to some areas. It is appreciated that parents will want to watch their girls row, so every effort will be made to relieve parents to watch races.

Here's a quick run down of the day:

BBQ 1 7am - 2pm (Under 16 Parents) breakfast and lunch
BBQ 2 10am - 2pm (Under 16 Parents) lunch
Kiosk   8am - 4 pm (Under 15 Parents) all prepared food, drinks - no cooking involved
Drinks Van 10am - 2pm (Under 14 Parents)
Coffee Cart  8am - 4pm (Under 14 Parents) taking orders and money only
Cleaning            Every 2 hours (Under 13 Parents)
Rubbish            Every 2 hours (Under 13 Parents)
Gate & Parking (Open Parents)
Merchandise      10am - 2pm (Open Parents)

If parents have contacts with businesses that may be able to provide discounted/sponsored supplies please let us know.

We would be looking for:

Bread, Meat, Soft Drinks, Water, Juices, Salad Rolls, Sushi, Lollies, Chocolate, Pies, Sausage Rolls, Muffins, Milk, Ice, Gas, Generators, and the list goes on.........

Please contact Annette Palmer on 6225 7914 if you can assist.

President's Cocktail Party and Silent Auction Posted 2 February 2007

This is a major fundraiser for the club and we are seeking donations of items to auction off on the night.  Please contact Sally Van Dyken (6234 6518 BH) or Annette Palmer if you have are able to supply auction items.

We are seeking a bottle of wine donation from each family to make up some wine hampers.  Please leave your bottle of wine in the basket in the boat shed.

Further details are available on the attached invitation (PDF document).

Additional Safety Equipment Posted 4 December 2006

The season-opening regatta went well yesterday, assisted by some favourable weather and the organisational skills of many of the club's members. The quad and eight events provided an opportunity for Masters and younger rowers to compete together and resulted in some very close racing.

As a result of a funny mishap when launching a speedboat yesterday, some of the U14 dads decided to add some items to their safety equipment.

Here they are this morning in their new gear with their arch-nemesis.
Click on the picture for a larger version.
