It is called a Pilcrow.

If the is not being displayed click on the Show All (2002) or Show/Hide (2000) button on the Standard Toolbar.

Paste Using the Insert Key (2000/2002)

You can assign the Paste command to the Insert key on your keyboard. This means you only have to use one key to paste the contents of your Clipboard into your document.

  1. From the Tools menu select Options.
  2. Click on the Edit tab.
  3. Select the Use the INS key for paste check box to enable this feature.
  4. Click OK.

Each time you press the INSERT key, you will paste the contents of the Clipboard into your document.

Quickly type out a table (2000/2002)

You can create a table in Word by using your + and - keys.

  1. Type a plus sign (+) and then type minus signs ( - ) until you have the column width you want.
  2. To add another column type another (+) sign and series of ( - ) signs.
  3. Continue for however many columns you want and end the line off with a (+) sign.

  1. When you are finished press the Enter key and Word will turn the text into table.

  1. If you want to add more rows to your table, move to the last cell of the table and click TAB.

Note that if this tip doesn't work for you it's probably because you need to turn on the AutoFormat feature:

  1. From the Tools menu select AutoCorrect.
  2. Select the AutoFormat As You Type tab and check the Tables check box.
  3. Click OK.
