The Status Bar - What does the At and Ln Indicators mean?

  • The At indicator shows where, approximately, the insertion point would be on the printed page.

  • The Ln indicator indicates which line of text you are on for this page of your document.

When looking at the Ln and At indicators, there is no direct correlation between the two numbers.

  • The measurement in the At indicator depends on the formatting you have used on the page.

  • The measurement in the Ln indicator is a count of the lines since the top of the page.

Creating shaped images in Word

If you want to have images in your document but just not the normal rectangle shape, for example a circle, diamond or cross.

  2. Right click on the shape and select Format AutoShape.

  3. Select the Colours and Lines tab.

  4. From the Fill Colour dropdown list select Fill Effects.

  5. Select the Picture tab.

  6. Select your picture and click on the Insert button.

  7. Check Lock picture aspect ratio checkbox,

  8. Click on OK.

Tables that go across more than one page

When you have tables that span across multiple pages, the headings only are displayed on the first page the table is displayed.

In Word there is a feature called Heading Rows Repeat that will repeat the heading row or rows at the beginning of the table, subsequently then appearing on the next pages automatically.

  1. Select the row or rows at the top of the table.

  2. From the Tables menu select Heading Rows Repeat.

Word will now place duplicate headings at the beginning of each new page. If you change the headings they will automatically be updated on the subsequent pages.
