It is a common practice to copy a PowerPoint
presentation in order to open it on another computer. PowerPoint provides
an easy step by step wizard to allow the user to quickly package their
files.
Pack And Go Wizard (2000/XP)
You can use the Pack and Go Wizard to put
together all the files and fonts used in the presentation on a disc. If
you need to run your presentation on a computer which does not have
PowerPoint installed, the Pack and Go Wizard will also package the
PowerPoint Viewer on the disk. With this Pack and Go tool, you can also
include linked files and
TrueType fonts.
-
From the File menu select Pack
and Go.
-
Click Next on the starting window.
-
Select the PowerPoint presentation you
want to distribute with the Pack and Go Wizard and click Next.
-
Select destination (the destination
is the disk drive or folder where you want to save such presentation)
and click Next.
-
Click Next on the Links
window.
-
Click on Download the
Viewer
on the Viewer Window, then click Next.
-
Click Finish on the last window to confirm
what you have done.
Now the Pack and Go Wizard will compress
your presentation to the destination folder/disk that you have indicated
and will include in it the file you have specified and (if you have
installed it on your machine) the PowerPoint viewer needed for your
recipients to be able to see the PowerPoint presentation on their pcs.
You will now have two files: a .ppz file and
a PNGSETUP file.

Unpack the Presentation
To unpack the presentation you have just
packed and view it on another computer, do the following:
-
Insert the disk where you copied your
PowerPoint presentation.
-
Double click on the Pngsetup file
and select the destination to extract the file.
-
Click on Yes when prompted.
-
Click on Yes to run the show
automatically.
Package for CD (2003)
PowerPoint's Package for CD feature
automatically includes your linked files and the PowerPoint Viewer to
ensure your presentation will operate on virtually any computer.
The PowerPoint Package for CD dialog box
will assist you with packing up your presentation. You can send your
packaged presentation to either a CD or a new folder on your computer. If
you want to add security to your presentation, you can specify passwords
to open the file and/or modify the file.
-
Open the PowerPoint presentation you wish
to package.
-
From the File menu select
Package for CD.
-
In the Name the CD text box, type a
name for your disc.
NOTE: This will not change the name of your presentation, only
the name for the CD.
-
In the Files to be copied section, verify
that the desired presentation is selected.
NOTE: By default, your linked files are included.
-
To include files not linked to in your
presentation, click on Add Files.
-
Using the Look in pull-down list, locate
and select the desired file(s).
-
Click Add.
-
The Package for CD dialog box refreshes,
showing the file(s) you've added.
-
Click OK.
-
Click Copy to CD.
-
The progress is displayed in a dialog box.
-
When all files have been copied, a dialog
box appears, asking whether you want to copy the files to another CD.
-
To repeat the process with another CD,
click Yes.
-
If you are satisfied with the number of
CD's already used, click No.
-
