This is an account based service for which a signup process is completed to receive a user name and password. Software is made available to download for use with Outlook and the custom application provided. The username and password can be used to login to a browser based interface.

Telstra offers three access options:

  • Via Microsoft Outlook
  • Via a custom application
  • Via a web interface

Outlook option

A Microsoft Outlook plug-in must be installed on all PCs that will be sending SMS messages. The plug-in puts an extra button on the Outlook toolbar.

Options are:

  • Email Address- a SMS will be sent to the specified address of the account
  • Company Inbox - a SMS will be sent to the specified Company Inbox of the account
  • Personal Inbox - a SMS will sent to the Inbox of the account it was sent from
  • Mobile Handset - a SMS will be sent to the number of the specified mobile phone of the account

Application option

The software has a stand-alone portion that runs as a system tray icon:

When double clicked it brings up the following interface:

The functionality is very similar to that of the Outlook plug-in with some logging abilities.

Web option

The service can also be accessed via the Web using an Internet Browser.

Once logged in, the Web based service provides some additional features to that of the Outlook plug-in and stand-alone client. SMS messages are sent by entering the number and message, then selecting Reply To option.

Additional features include:

  • The Message Template - where predefined text can be saved and used when sending similar messages.
  • Mail merge send - is available when provided with an uploaded CSV file, can automatically send uniquely customised messages to multiple different numbers. The custom message and different numbers are contained in the CSV file, which could possibly be generated automatically from a SACS report.
  • Bulk messaging is also possible from within the web interface. This supports sending the same message to multiple numbers.
  • Address book, Inbox and Logging features are also available from within the web interface.
  • Using the Web based solution would negate the need to have software installed.
