Managing Large and Collaborative Documents
Long documents, (books, theses, manuals, reports)
can present problems that you won't find in shorter documents:
-
Longer documents are often more structured,
containing several levels of headings, and the headings may be numbered.
-
It is more difficult to maintain a standard "look
and feel" throughout a long document. Long documents are usually created
over a longer period of time, and it could be easy to forget what
formatting standards you were applying. Long documents may be created by
more than one person, and each person might have elected to apply
different formatting.
-
Long documents may contain components not found in
shorter documents such as a Table of Contents, List of Tables/Figures,
an Index, cross references, footnotes or endnotes.
This course is designed to concentrate on the many techniques to manage
large documents.
